True believer: the short but remarkable life of Hudson Hayes

Most 11-year-olds don’t spend their days wrestling with existential questions regarding eternal salvation or traveling across the country living out the beliefs they espouse. But then again, most 11-yearolds aren’t Hudson Hayes.

Blanketed in love: GC fourth graders donate quilts to Creekside Cottages, Arlington Place

Every month, fourth grade students at Grundy Center Elementary make a visit to Arlington Place and Creekside Cottages to visit, play games and do crafts with residents there. In December, students made their monthly visit extra special, when they handmade a blanket for each resident and delivered them to the residents themselves.

The two fourth grade teachers - Miranda Rekers and Tara Liston - say the fourth grade classes been doing the visits for years, as a fun way for students to connect with people in the community.

DOT traffic study recommends downsizing G Avenue to three lanes

In an effort to curb speeding and soothe traffic flow through Grundy Center, the Iowa DOT has recommended a conversion to shrink G Avenue from a four lane roadway to a three lane roadway.

The recommendation was outlined in the results of a TEAP (Traffic Engineering Assistance Program) Study the DOT completed late last year, which noted that speed was a concern on G Ave., and suggested that a three lane conversion would slow down traffic and improve safety of drivers and pedestrians.

A new chapter: AGWSR's Gerbracht wins girls state title

WAVERLY – About seven years ago, Chad Gerbracht took a photo that he wanted to share with his daughter, Ali.

The photo was a shot of the eight medal-winning wrestlers in Class 1A's 106-pound division standing on the podium at the state meet in Des Moines.

Eddyville-Blakesburg's Megan Black was one of those eight wrestlers on the podium that day, the first girl to win a medal at the Iowa state wrestling tournament.

Chad's message to Ali: "This is you someday."
